Fitness is a Lifestyle

Fitness is a Lifestyle

By Dr. Daniel Rocha, DN, LMT, CPT, CNS

Since leaving bodybuilding, I’ve had the fantastic opportunity to step away from the daily necessity of attaching to an outcome. For example, I was so attached to having to put myself through a hard contest prep that if I didn’t win my show, I'd feel like a failure. Trust me; nothing hurts more than 2nd place.

But think about that stressful environment in your brain. Putting pressure on yourself to win or you’re a failure – that’s a terrible place to be mentally. Yes, you have to focus and be driven, but never create a prison for yourself.

If any of you are attached like that, too, thinking you have some specific outcome you need to achieve, I think it’s essential that you pay attention and start realizing that the development of your program doesn’t matter. It’s the process that matters!  I was told years ago not to go to school to be something, but to learn. Apply what you have learned to your passion and create the life you want. Much different than going to school, getting good grades, and becoming a (your choice). When you learn to master the process, transformation becomes easy. It becomes empowering. It becomes fun, and it’s within your control.

Now, as a physician, my reason for training is to be healthy and serve as an example for my patients and clients. Your body is a sacred temple and should be cared for as such.  Movement is the key to a long life, and a healthy gut is the key to a healthy life. This is a long life, and all of you influence others whether you like it or not. So create habits to improve your mind, body, and spirit.

Fitness is a lifestyle, so let me show you what the SyRoc Lifestyle is all about.

Fitness Training Benefits

3. Enhanced muscular strength and endurance: Resistance training builds and maintains muscle strength and endurance.

4. Increased flexibility and mobility: Activities like stretching, yoga, and functional movement exercises can improve flexibility, range of motion, and mobility, reducing the risk of injury and enhancing performance.

5. Better mental health: Exercise has been shown to have a positive impact on mental well-being by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression while enhancing mood and overall cognitive function.

6. Reduced risk of chronic diseases: Regular physical activity lowers the risk of developing various chronic conditions, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer.

7. Improved bone health: Weight-bearing activities maintain and improve bone density, reducing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures.

9. Boosted self-esteem and confidence: Achieving fitness goals and improvements in physical performance lead to a greater sense of accomplishment, self-confidence, and positive body image.

10. Social benefits: Participating with a trainer provides social interaction and camaraderie.

So, when is your fitness program doomed? Here are 4 ways you can examine

- If your diet is unreliable and costly.

- If you have too many cheat days each month.

- If you have no positive competition around you.

- If you're working like a dog in your gym and starting to burn out.

This is how you know, you need help from someone who can help you, mentor you, and can quickly guide you to success. Your fitness program should not feel like a prison.

It should be a plan where you know you receive great results, something you are willing to pay a fair price for. A great coach will hold you accountable, answer questions, and make things to fit your lifestyle. Otherwise, you're better off staying with what you’re doing.
